#520 Mike Flanagan

Mike Flanagan's 1982 Topps card, thumbnail

Mike Flanagan was pretty much a mystery entering ’82. You just weren’t sure what you were going to get from him. He was an All-Star in ’78 and won the ’79 AL Cy Young, but, he posted ERA’s over 4.00 in 3 of the past 4 seasons, and 1981 was his worst. His first 7 [...]

#165 1981 Victory Leaders

1981 Victory Leaders's 1982 Topps card, thumbnail

Every single one of the guys on this card had the exact same amount of wins in ’81, with 14. Another 4 pitchers were at 13, and could’ve easily had 14 too.

#163 1981 RBI Leaders

A pair of future Hall of Famers dominate this card. Even when this card hit the public in ’82, we all knew these guys would be or at least could be in Cooperstown someday. Of the two, Eddie Murray had the easier time winning his league’s RBI title, even though it was close. Although it [...]

#162 1981 Home Run Leaders

1981 Home Run Leaders's 1982 Topps card, thumbnail

Obviously, this is one of the coolest cards in the set when you’re an eight year old and I dubbed it “the card of five stars”. You’ve got 5 of the best players AND they’re the home run leaders! It all starts with Mike Schmidt, who led the National League in homers for the fifth [...]

#419 Steve Stone

Hopes were high for Steve Stone as 1981 began. He’d just won the Cy Young award on the strength of 25 victories, and looked like he was simply a late bloomer. Unfortunately that’s not the direction his story goes. Arm troubles quickly followed, chasing him from the game into the broadcast booth with a year and a half.

#390 Eddie Murray

The runner-up AL MVP in 1982 was future Hall of Famer Eddie Murray, and what a season he had! He led the Orioles on a late season surge where they nearly won the division, after being 7 1/2 games back as late as August 20th.

#776 Mark Belanger

Mark Belanger's 1982 Topps card, thumbnail

To me, this is one of the worst cards in the whole set. Mark Belanger, known for his glove for a generation, and this card shows him…standing at the plate. Sad. Although, he got a hit in his final career PA. He wasn’t even an Oriole anymore, by the time ’82 began.

#21 Baltimore Orioles Future Stars

The Jeff Schneider rookie card is the most valuable card of the whole ’82 Topps set. This is my least favorite card in the entire set, because I just don’t think any of these players should’ve been on this particular card. Seriously, I’d put 3 different guys on here.

# All-Star Scott McGregor

All-Star Scott McGregor's 1982 Topps card, thumbnail

Here, Scott McGregor looks like he couldn’t care what happens, as if success comes so easy to him that nothing bothered him. He also looks like he’s hiding tweety bird in his mouth. Don’t be fooled though, he was one of the toughest lefties of the early 1980′s, so it was no mistake he was an All-Star in 1981.
